Academic & Employment Opportunities (Ages 14+)

Participants receive real life job skills through an average of 8 hours of employment weekly on site at The West Side Commons. All youth enrolled in our employment programs are required to attend Evening Study Hall and must share the report cards with staff to facilitate academic and college counseling.

Work assignments include:

  • Office and Data Management
  • Facilities Maintenance and Operations
  • Supervision and Safety of Children in Afterschool and Summer Programs

Youth employed with us are assigned a staff mentor and also receive a range of support services which include structured training, college and career counseling throughout the year to help them develop the skills needed for their job assignment and future career and higher education opportunities.

  • Resume Building Skills
  • Job Interview Skills
  • Facilities Maintenance and Operations
  • Child Day Care Program Development
  • First Aid Certification
    CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certification
  • Nutrition and Health Needs of Children
  • NYS Statutes and Regulations Pertaining to Child Day Care,
    Safety and Security Procedures

 

Requirements

Students must have working papers and be enrolled in and attending school.
